Pune, Mar 24, 2021: Pune-based Urologist Dr. Suraj Lunavat has operated upon 60-year-old Male Patient and removing a 7cm Left kidney stone (Staghorn Type) along with multiple small secondary stones were extracted from the patient’s kidney, and out of these, one stone was a diameter of 7 cm.
When the patient was brought to the hospital, he had complaints of pain in his left flank for 2years. On getting an X-ray and an ultrasound done, it was detected that there was a giant staghorn-type stone in his left kidney.
When the patient was first seen by Dr. Suraj Lunavat (Urologist in Pune) in the OPD, he was taken aback by the gigantic size of the stone shown in the plain X-ray and got it repeated to reconfirm it.
He then decided to operate upon him on an immediate basis. He has conducted a long open abdominal operation (left flank approach) during which they removed 7 cm staghorn type stone.
According to Dr. Suraj Lunavat, “This is a Rare surgery in today’s LASER era’ that a stone of such large size has been removed from a patient’s kidney. Kidney stones generally occur due to solid concretions formed from dissolved urinary minerals.
Removal of this mammoth size of the stones required us to do more detailed planning and strategizing before the surgery as compared to other cases of kidney stones. His post-operative recovery was good and the patient is now happy and back to his normal life and he is now active to work within 1 week.
